2018/2019 - Block hosted its annual end of year awards event in April, recognising the Senior and Junior Athletes of the year, along with the Coaches award, Agility and Beep test winners for 2018/2019. Congratulations to Imogen who won the Senior Athlete of the Year award. Imogen has had another impressive season with SLSWA, winning her second state beach sprint title. Imogen has continued to improve as a consequence of her passion and attitude towards training. Imogen has shown great leadership throughout the year amongst the group always assisting the junior Block athletes. Next season Imogen will be part of our mentor program here at Block, with a focus on becoming our first Junior coach. Ethan took out this year’s Junior Athlete of the Year Award with all of his hard work not going unnoticed. An athlete who loves his running and goes beyond to perfect his technique when he is not training is a true inspiration to us all at Block. Ethan was again very successful in this year’s athletics carnivals and has shown excellent sportsmanship at all times. Coach Gary of all people was this year’s Coaches Award winner! It’s not often this happens, but Gary has worked tirelessly this season overcoming injuries, supporting the group, remaining positive, motivated and extremely resilient - A true role model for the group. Congratulations to our Beep test winners; Seb and Lara, who pushed the Block Beep test groups to the limits. Also to our Agility test winners; Gareth, Imogen, Oscar and Ivy who seemed to effortlessly combat the tests we ran this season. What a great season! Thanks to all of our athletes, parents and families for always creating such a positive and friendly environment here at Block Athletics.
2017/2018 - Donovan Roets, Coco & Tia. The Senior Athlete of the Year award went to Donovan Roets after an outstanding first year with Block. Donovan has been an extremely popular parent at Block for the past 2 years, but turned spectating into training for the past 12 months. Donovan became a WA 4x100m relay state record holder and multiple state medallist, competing at the 2018 State and National Masters Championships. Donovan's achievements were more than deserved and a true result of his can do attitude! The Junior Athlete of the Year award was won by Coco, who demonstrated an outstanding commitment to training every session, every week and always had a smile on her face. Coco's positive attitude to training saw her join the Block senior group, where she continued to work hard amongst the older athletes while continuing to focus on her own technique and sessions. The inaugural Block Coaches award was won by Tia, for her resilience, team work, great attitude and determination throughout the season. A real trooper, well done!
2016/2017 - Tony Johnson, returning to the track after 20 years since running at high school, Tony set his sights on competing at the 2016 World Masters Championships in his home town Perth, WA. Tony completed a strict program, training 4 times a week which resulted in him achieving his goal and representing Australia in the 'blue ribbon' 100m event. Tony went on to compete in his first professional race in December 2016, which coincidentally was run at his original little athletics oval, Charles Riley Reserve, making the final and narrowly missing out on a top 3 finish and prize money!
2015/2016 - Noah Franolich, 'up and coming' soccer player, who dedicated a strong year of sprint training, to improve his pace and stamina for the 2016 soccer season. Noah's desire to train hard (rain, hail or shine) saw him improve his 100m time by 1.03 seconds and assume a new position as striker of his soccer team!
2014/2015 - Ella Morison, awarded Block Athletics inaugural 'Athlete of the year' trophy. Ella demonstrated excellent commitment to training throughout the year and was successful in making the trip across to 'Aussies' on the Gold Coast, ending a fantastic first year with Block!
